“I AM NORMAL, is a groundbreaking, merciless interrogation of viewer and viewed, an exploration of manhood, womanhood and sexuality. Projection artist Morgan Freeman uses his imagination, technical bravura, and keen understanding of the human form to allow audience members to manipulate, in real-time, giant images of naked people. The walls of the RABBITHOLE gallery are turned into a rainbow Stonehenge of shrinking, enlarging, and distorting monoliths. Multifarious body types, races, both genders will be under your control.”Max Ritvo

Who is Morgan Freeman, the real Morgan Freeman? No, not the actor who plays God in every movie, the real Morgan Freeman. If you have ever been to a party in the city, you may have caught this visually artistic guru’s work or at least been in his world without you even knowing it.  Morgan has designed countless stages using his unique visual projection skills and the scenes for many underground warehouse events. He has also designed the visuals of quite a few corporate events. There is more to Morgan Freeman than meets the eye.

He, just like you or I, enjoys eating good, listening to good music and being around the company of good friends. Unlike you and I, he has taken art to new levels with his elite projection mapping talents transforming somewhat normal stages into colorful jaw dropping ocular pleased wonderlands.

Humanitarian by day, light bending hero at night

Morgan Freeman is a journalist by day who has had NYPD independent press accreditation for many years. His work has morgan-freeman-wont-stopbeen published in Globe, AERA Magazine as well as the front page of an architecture magazine for an article he did with the wonderful Keiko Tsuyama, known for her international news coverage and published books about technology. He covered the Occupy Wall Street story, was in Spain covering a lot of the conflict, as well as in Haiti after the earthquake to cover the rebuilding. But, more recently he has been focusing on keeping my residency at Marquee, New York, by breaking new boundaries in projection technology.

Morgan Freeman has been in the projection mapping game for over 5 years. Not the originator of the craft, but now most definitely an innovator of the craft, who took projection mapping to new levels, providing the most complex underground stages and art installations New York City has ever seen. Sure enough you get the chance to see one of his amazing projection projects live on May 17th at BangonNYC’s “Danger Zone” if you were lucky enough to get tickets. He is rumored to have huge projection mapped F-16′s taking over your eye space to fit the Danger Zone theme of this party that should prove to be quite a banger in this 20,000 square foot warehouse.

Over the years, you have seen his work at many Manhattan Night Clubs, such as Hiro, Velour, Santo’s Party House and more. He even held down the Webster Hall video staircase wall for quite some time. Right now you can catch Morgan Freeman as a resident of NYC’s Marquee, working with hundred’s of the worlds Top DJs.

New creations

I AM NORMALSomething to be excited about is Morgan’s upcoming exhibit on June 5th, 2014 at the Rabbithole Gallery (Dumbo, BK), titled “I Am Normal”. This art installation is not to be missed. It’s an exhibit that features the human body, both male and female and is completely interactive, where patrons there will be able to manipulate the bodies of 9 models, men and women. The installation has best been described by poet and experimental comedian Max Ritvo as a “groundbreaking, merciless interrogation of viewer and viewed, exploration of manhood, womanhood and sexuality; projection artist Morgan Freeman uses his imagination, technical bravura, and keen understanding of the human form to allow audience members to manipulate, in real-time, moving video of models.” This is something I can really get into, something original I can trek out to and enjoy myself with good company looking at beautiful bodies we can interact with smiles on our faces. Can you just imagine if Morgan Freeman redesigned Liberty Science Center. I don’t think I would ever leave.

Talent meets talent

Over the years, Morgan Freeman has developed an almost boast worthy compilation of talent he has worked with such as Knife Party, GRIZ, Danny Avila, Gladiator, MYNDSET, Angerfist, Dj Bill (Satellite Records), Erykah Badu, Curren$y, Stalley, TRADEMARK the Skydiver, Tabi Bonney, Tall Paul, Boy George, Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia, David Harness, Dimitri, Frenchy Le Freak, Mark Farina, MICRO, Caffeine, X-Dream, DJ Knowledge, Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Rap, Neophyte, AIRWAVE, Mantis, Tommy Sunshine, Jen Mas, Peretz (Perry Farrell), Ross Ferrer (EpicCloud), TON1C, Kissette, Biggie Stardust, Vacationer, and The Chainsmokers.

It’s my opinion that this list will just keep growing and the ground breaking trends will keep flowing because Morgan Freeman will never stop doing what he loves to do, which is create beautiful things that you and I can appreciate. Whether it’s an intriguing art exhibit or building an atmosphere designed to  bewilder fellow humans, you are happy to be a part of Morgan’s creativity.

Keep an eye closely peeled for Morgan Freeman’s reopening of the treasured 12SPOT where we are soon to hold some memorable nights where people are ego free and the dance and laughter resonate until the sun comes up.
